Haley Triem

Hey Y'all!

I'm a first year PhD student in Information Science at The University of Texas at Austin, advised by Dr. Ken Fleischmann. I study how to uphold human values in human-like AI, and use a range of multidisciplinary methods, such as intierviews, surveys, and natural language processing.

I am a 2024-2025 IMLS LADDER Fellow and a 2025-2027 NSF Research Traineeship Fellow in Ethical AI. At the center of my work, I maintain that social, cultural, and historical context ground ethical AI.

Prior to my PhD, I've held various roles such as Entrepreneurial Lead (NSF I-Corps), Jack Brooks Project Intern (Dolph Briscoe Center for American History), Learning Facilitator (Computer & Data Science Online Program, "Ethics in AI"), and Circulation Assistant (Montgomery County Memorial Library System).
